It has obviously been an extremley busy year, so I will try to give you the gist of production and engineering work that has come through the studio in the last year in between tours with THE ADOLESCENTS to promote the new DOB produced "O.C. Confidential out on (Finger Records), PUNK ROCK KARAOKE, and FRONT ROW FOR THE MELTDOWN.

A recent addition to the studio is Engineer / Producer / Guitarist / Acetate Records Honcho Rick Ballard who has engineered at DOB Sound on several releases including: SONNY VINCENT Feat. Clem Burke (Blondie, Eurythmics, Nancy Sinatra) and the late Aurther Kane (NEW YORK DOLLS), The Adolescents O.C. Confidential, Punk Rock Karaoke and others. Welcome aboard Rick!!

Dayton Ohio transplants - now LA sceensters FRONT ROW FOR THE MELTDOWN are current contenders for several major record labels and publishing companies (See this band while they are still playing local clubs - you will not be disapointed). In addition to new music that you can sample on their My Space Page, FRFTM has recorded music for Comcast and Hyundai comercials.

Seattle progressive hardcore youngsters (DEK) camped out for their 2nd full length release on (Finger Records) entitled "Watatada" and are making plans for their 3rd which I will be producing in their hometown and mixing back here at DOB Sound.

San Diego's old school (but not old enough to vote yet) punk rock band WRECKING CREW (featuring 15 year old guitar legend JOE HARRISON who also plays with THE ADOLESCENTS) completed their first label release "Static Dream" for (Finger Records),

Topanga Canyon Folk / Blues Singer / Pianist SANDRA BACAL and her band recorded an indipendent 11 song CD.

A full length release for San Francisco Garage Rock n Roll Band THE SILENCERS (Heat Slick Records).

October begins production on the 2nd Full length CD for MISS DERRINGER (Sympathy For The Record Industry Label) featuring guests; Guitarist - Jimmy Wilsey (Chris Isaac, Avengers), with Clem Burke and Yours Truly on the drums.

Grammy Winning Singer/Songwiter LUCINDA WILLIAMS dropped by DOB Sound to lend her beautiful voice to 2 duets: The forthcoming album by FLOGGING MOLLY "Within A Mile Of Home" (produced by Ted Hut for Sideonedummy Records) features Lucinda on their heartfelt Cetic Rock Classic "Factory Girls", a song about F.M. singer Dave King's mum. Country Singer/Songwriter BOB WOODRUFF brought in some of his most recent material for vocals and mixing featuring Lucinda and ex BLACK CROWS gutarist MARC FORD on a Roy Orbison-esque emotional power ballad "Theres Somthin' There".

Old School Punk Rockers THE SKULLS rocked the house recording a new single " " for Dr. Strange Records "No Nothing".

Strictly Commercial: A song titled "Becoming" written by Singer/Songwriter JENNIFER MANDELL, was recently produced by DEREK O'BRIEN for TOYOTA and features ROYAL CROWN REVIEW guitarist - JAMES ACHER, SOCIAL DISTORTION / RANDY WEEKS keyboardist - DANNY Mc GOUGH and DEREK O'BRIEN on drums / percussion. Also this month, a half hour radio infomercial for AVANTI INVESTMENT GROUP was recorded, edited and mixed at DOB

STUDIO EQUIPMENT UPGRADE: DOB Sound has recently aquired a vintage Teletronix LA-2A Compressor, 2 channels of Universal Audio 1176 Compressor, A Tascam US-2400 Digital 24 Fader Controller, Royer Ribbon Mic, and upgraded to a Mix (4) Pro Tools System with a New Mac G4 @ 1.5 Gig speed and a 23" Apple Flat Screen. A New custom console and patch bay

Dayton Ohio expatriates FRONT ROW FOR THE MELTDOWN have re located to Los Angeles and are making there home at DOB Sound working on pre production for their next album. Check out their web site for a sample of some fine rock.

Final Mixes are being tweaked on the first album in 10 years for Legendary Orange County Punk Rock Band THE ADOLESCENTS. A very "Hands On" production by Derek O'Brien includes producing, engineering, mixing, drumming, (backing vocals - a plenty), and writing music for 2 of the songs. "It has been a year in the making due to scheduling and lineup change in the band, but it has been a great and rewarding experience working with these old friends and getting to go out and play the songs live".

THE MALCONTENTS Featuring Greg Kuehn (Bob Dylan, The Church, TSOL, Ian Astbury etc..) enlist Derek O'Brien for drumming, Backing vocals and engineering.

Jazz Vocal Quintet CRESCENDO singer - Charmane Clamore is currently working on a solo album of Jazz standards and Caberet songs with fellow Crescendoite and seasoned DOB Sound client Michael Konik as producer.

The ADOLESCENTS are currently gigging and selling their just completed 6 Song EP (Produced Engineered and Mixed by Derek O'Brien) at the shows to tide over the fans until their next Album. More songs are in the works at DOB SOUND.

PUNK ROCK KARAOKE is back in the studio tracking songs for the album. New Additions to the growing list of guest singers appearing on the album include: MATT SKIBA of ALALINE TRIO, JOE SIB of 22 JACKS, SHAWN STERN of YOUTH BRIGADE

Since the last update, Derek has produced / engineered demos for South Central Hardcore band SHOKMA, Santa Barbra Punk / Metal Band BLACK MARKET ELVIS , Comedian JOE LAVELLE doing Comedy Country songs with the back up band for Irish Folk Singer Anne Marie.A song for a Chuck Berry Tribute Compilation sung by SONNY VINCENT. Sonny�s Line Up for this tune was CLEM BURKE of BLONDIE (and many others) on drums, Arthur Kane of NEW YORK DOLLS on Bass, and Rick Ballard of DRAGBEATon Guitar.

Currently in the works is A single of 2 TURBONEGO songs covered by Orange County Punk Rock Legends ADOLESCENTS for European release. Also in the works is Pre-Production for a new ADOLESCENTS album. More details on this one later.
